About the Comic

Midnight Macabre is the story of Gaspar Baugh, a twenty-something comedian trying to keep a long-standing midnight monster matinee show going on a small, often overlooked UHF station in northern Texas. It is also the story of the people he meets along the way. Starting in 1981, the comic takes place twenty-six years ago.

General Comic Questions
Q: Is Midnight Macabre a prequel to Something*Positive?
A: No. Midnight Macabre is a different story set in the same "reality" as S*P. It currently shares one character with S*P (Lisa Baugh) and some of what happens in Midnight Macabre may have effects in S*P, but it's not meant to be a prequel.

Q: Why did you start Midnight Macabre?
A: Personal reasons.

Q: Why did you re-start Midnight Macabre?
A: I missed it, it's fun to write, and my dad wanted me to do a comic with less of the "foul" language I'm known for.

Q: Why did Midnight Macabre go on such a long hiatus?
A: Also personal reasons. Some very unpleasant events occurred in my life all at once and it came down to do all three of my comics randomly, do only one and put the others on hiatus, or quit all three and move on to something else. I chose to focus on Something*Positive, which is my chief concern. MM is a close second. I told myself, "Once things get under control, I'll restart it."

Then time passed.

Things didn't get better - at all. And I let myself get more depressed about MM and how many months I was behind on it. Then I realized, "You know, this comic takes place in 1981. It doesn't have to synch up, season wise, to the current day."

Q: So are you restarting MM now?
A: I'm certainly trying to.

Q: Will MM ever cross over with S*P?
A: It kind of did in the storyline Unexpected, where Gaspar visits his now adult daughter Lisa. Gaspar was also sort of showed up in the storyline Family Macabre and attended Faye's Funeral. Beyond that, it's hard to do a crossover between the strips. The first MM strip takes place just over twenty years before the first S*P strip. Characters from S*P will, on occasion, make cameos in MM and vice versa, but that's as good as it gets.

Q: Will MM ever cross over with New Gold Dreams?
A: No.

Q: Will MM ever cross over with Life With Rippy?
A: No.

Q: Will MM ever cross over with any other webcomics?
A: The same problem of when MM creeps up. At the time this is written the comic is taking place in 1981. For there to be a crossover with another comic, most likely that comic would have to be doing a flashback story. Don't expect any MM crossovers.

Q: How come the language in MM isn't as... "colorful" as it is in S*P?
A: MM takes place primarily in a workplace circa early 80s. Saltier language just isn't appropriate.

Q: So is MM supposed to be more family friendly?
A: No. It's a comic. I don't sit down and think, "Oh, goodness. I'll make something the whole family can enjoy." I'm just trying to make something people will enjoy. MM will still probably have subject matter that kids won't enjoy or shouldn't read but honestly, I'm just trying to make a comic I think is good.

Q: Why are the dates on the archive pages set to be twenty years ago?
A: Because it so pleases me.

Q: Why?
A: Y'know, it's called a Frequently Asked Questions section - not Frequently Answered Questions. NEXT!

Q: When did MM storylines start flashing back to 1981?
A: The first strip... because, y'see, that's when the comic takes place.

Character & Story Related Questions
Q: So is Lisa a lesbian like she is in S*P?
A: ... This gets into all sorts of nature vs. nurture arguments about sexuality and when it starts and I'm not even going to bother. In MM, Lisa is a toddler. A happy toddler. In S*P, she's a young woman who is involved in a monogomous lesbian relationship. That's really all I feel like saying about it.

Q: What's up with Gladys's cats?
A: What cats?
